Shipping Update: Domestic Orders on Their Way & Limited Edition Dust Jacket Progress

We're excited to let you know that all domestic orders for the standard edition of Violet Dawn: Exile have been packaged! If you're in the U.S., you should receive a tracking number from USPS within the next 48 hours—be sure to check your spam folder just in case. All domestic orders are being shipped via priority mail, so you can expect to have your book by mid-next week.
For our international backers, we’ll begin processing your orders this weekend and will provide another update once all shipments are on their way.
Limited Edition Dust Jacket
For those who ordered the limited edition of Violet Dawn: Exile, we’ve completed the artwork for the dust jacket and are currently awaiting the printer’s proof. Due to China's National Holiday this week, we expect to receive the proof next week.
Below is the final artwork for the dust jacket (subject to any changes based on the proof).

Locking Shipping Addresses

We're preparing to ship your rewards, and will be locking shipping addresses soon. You have two days to update your address in your BackerKit survey.

If you haven't completed your survey yet, you can still fill it out to receive your rewards, but your shipment may be delayed.

Louis is currently working on the artwork for the dust jacket. The plan is to have that completed this weekend and send it off to the printer next week. I'll share the final dust jacket artwork when I have it.

Books Are Here! Next Steps on Fulfillment and Payments

We’re thrilled to announce that the books have finally arrived, and they look stunning! Seeing all our hard work come together in print is an incredible feeling, and we can't wait to get these beautiful copies into your hands. Check out the images of the final book below!
If you backed at the Sketch Edition tier, you'll also receive a random piece of original signed artwork from the sketches below.
COVER ISSUE
While we’re delighted with the overall quality, we did encounter a minor hiccup with the cover. The foil stamping, originally intended only for the Limited Edition and higher tiers, was applied to the entire print run. As a result, all Print Edition and Signed Edition backers will now receive a foil-stamped cover at no extra cost.
For our Limited Edition and higher tier backers, we still want to make sure your copies feel special. We’ve been working closely with our printer and we will be adding a custom dust jacket to your books at no additional charge. This adjustment will delay fulfillment of these tiers by about a month, but it’s important to us that you receive the exclusive product you were promised.
PAYMENTS
We plan to charge cards for shipping and any add-ons purchased through BackerKit on Friday, September 20th. This charge will appear as WAYWALKER STUDIOS, LLC on your bank statement. Please ensure your payment details are up to date, and keep an eye out for any notifications in case your payment doesn’t go through.
FULFILLMENT
We will be locking in shipping addresses for all backer tiers on September 21st. A final reminder will be sent 48 hours prior, so please double-check your address to ensure it is up-to-date.

Hard Copy Proof

Great news! We've received the hard copy proof for Exile.
For those who don't know, a hard copy proof is a physical mock-up that uses the same specifications as the final product. The colors, paper weight, and finish are identical to the final book. A hard copy proof shouldn't be confused with a digital proof, which is typically provided in PDF format.
All printers provide digital proofs. The advantage of a digital proof is the quick turnaround time—you often get them the same day you upload your project—and once approved, your project goes directly to print. However, the big disadvantage with digital proofs is that the colors on screen aren't always accurate compared to the final printed product. For smaller projects, like the Violet Dawn bookmark, I usually rely on the digital proof and don't worry about any color variance.
When I'm printing something more extensive, like a 100-page graphic novel, I find it best to get a physical copy to review. The downside with hard copy proofs is they aren't cheap, and having them printed and mailed from overseas takes longer. I didn't want to take any chances on something not coming out right, so we ordered a hard copy proof for Exile.
It would have cost over $3,000 to get a proof of the entire graphic novel, so we just ordered a single press sheet containing 8 pages from the final book. Examining the proof we wanted to ensure the fonts were legible, the colors matched what we see on screen, and the pages weren't too dark.
Overall, we're really pleased with how the proof came out. The fonts are crisp and readable, and the colors look great. A couple of pages came out a little dark, which we will adjust. Otherwise, everything looks fantastic and we're really excited to get this into everyone's hands. The changes won't take long to make, and the book should start printing sometime this week.
Once the book is off to the printer, we'll provide another update on when we'll be charging credit cards for shipping.

Digital Proof Approved!

The digital proof has finally been approved!
Once again we appreciate your patience. We ran into a bit of a snag as the files were initially prepared based on the trim size for a different publisher. Apparently, not all standard comic sizes are standard.
When we received our first proof, the pages and balloons were getting cut off so we essentially had to redo the layout of the entire project. This included extending the art on each page, moving the balloons and text, and some additional refinements to ensure everything was perfect.
Our next step is to approve the hard copy proof which will be coming in the mail. I'll share pictures of the proof once I receive it.
We're getting close to charging everyone's cards for shipping. We'll be sure to give you a couple of weeks notice before we do so.
